With Buzz Aldrin's statement of a Martian monolith fresh on my mind, I remembered something the great Arthur C. Clarke said during a conference where Buzz Aldrin was also in attendance:

"I'm fairly convinced that we have discovered life on Mars," Clarke told SPACE.com in 2001 as Buzz Aldrin listened. "There are some incredible photographs from [the Jet Propulsion Laboratory], which to me are pretty convincing proof of the existence of large forms of life on Mars! Have a look at them. I don't see any other interpretation."

The great Arthur C. Clarke believed the so-called glass worms or glass tunnels were in fact of biological nature. This is an impressive claim, and I'd certainly like to see more of these pictures, and more missions to the Red Planet, among other things, to examine the site where these "glass tubes" or worms seem to sprout from the martian ground.

Maybe they are only an optical ilusion? Maybe they are only concave valleys? Let's find out more...

What is astonishing about this claim is that Arthur C. Clarke did believe it. Now, I don't know if these glass worms are in fact living entities, but I included in the related links section, an article from Bad Astronomy that explains that it may be an optical illusion, a face-of-mars syndrome if you will. The photos linked to the above article show what looks to be convex valleys, bulging outwards, yet if you turn the pictures upside down they could be concave furrows, curving inwards, perhaps the result of erosion and running water long gone from the red planet. What do you guys think?
